FAQs

What size painting can I commission?

There are a range of sizes available, including custom sizes. Often people have a specific measurement to fit a wall, or they've purchased one or more paintings from my collections and they want to have more made to turn it into a series. If you know the dimensions you have in mind, you can share those with me. If not, we can consider some options together depending on a specific space or budget.

How do I share my inspiration?

If you have a photo, that is a great place to start. Also, it can be helpful to screen shot your favorite paintings I have done, and then we can use that as additional inspiration for your personalized painting. If you have specific colors or a mood you are going for, we can incorporate that.

Where can I find all your past work?

You can see my work in the Portfolio section of my website. Or you can browse my feed on Instagram @rrlaufer which has more.

How much is a commissioned painting?

I aim to provide affordable, original oil paintings. Pricing varies with size, and method of delivery/shipping for the final payment. Below is a sampling of common sizes and current pricing. For smaller, larger, or in-between sizes, prices will be adjusted accordingly.

  • 16 x 20 inches - $300

  • 18 x 24 - $400

  • 24 x 36 - $800

  • 30 x 40 - $1100

How long does it take to complete a commission painting?

Commission paintings can take about 8-12 weeks.

Do I see photos in the process?

That is up to you. Some people prefer to be surprised, relying on my past works they have seen and the source photos. Others are curious how things are going, or wish to give approval on something like composition, in which case I’m happy to share photos at that phase.

How realistic, or true to the photo source, can I expect the final painting to be?

If you look at my work you can get a general sense that my paintings tend to be fairly expressive. They retain the subject without being hyper-realistic, having more of a loose, painterly feel. We can discuss if you want a more abstract interpretation, or conversely, if there are certain details you’d like to retain.

Will my painting be ready to hang once I receive it?

Yes, sides of the canvas are painted a neutral color for a clean, modern look; and it will be wired and ready to hang.

How does payment work?

I ask for a non-refundable 50% as the deposit to get started. I'll check in with you as the painting progresses, and then I ask for the remaining 50% once you approve the finished piece before I ship it, or at the time of hand delivery if you are local.
